Structural Engineering is at the heart of our business. Over the years, Hydro-Utilities have gained strength and experience in designing and delivering a diversified range of structural engineering projects. Our team has experience, knowledge and innovation and with the acquisition of Bentley’s Project Wise 365 collaboration cloud platform, our team can deliver multiple projects at the same time. In an industry where delivering multiple and successful projects is an increasingly common and at the same time somewhat complex, the implementation of Building Information Modeling (BIM) practices has become an expected standard of work, rather than just a goal to strive for.
The publication of ISO19650, highlights the increasing awareness of BIM and similar digital advancements as key enablers of more effective project delivery the best way to ensure our continued success, was to leverage on digital solutions such as ProjectWise 365 that helps us to adapt to BIM standards, collaborative contracting models and performance-based design workflows.

Our Water Resources Management division boasts of a complement of qualified and experienced water resource experts and planning managers whom between them, have over 50 years’ experience within the water resources sector in the region. This division offers a broad spectrum of services within the water resources, water supply, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) sector on the continent and abroad.
Over the last 20 years, Hydro Utilities have collaborated with global firms to undertake various water and sanitation assignments funded by international multilateral organizations such as the World Bank, Australian Aid, UNICEF and the African Development Bank to mention but a few. By providing effective, innovative and sustainable solutions that meet the technical, institutional, regulatory, economic and environmental challenges facing the water sector, Hydro-Utilities enables communities to meet their current and future water needs in the most efficient manner.
With increased global demand on stressed water resources, Hydro-Utilities has planned, designed and managed the construction and development of water resource projects across the country, region and beyond. Hydro-Utilities assists its clients in the planning and development of water master plans, water resources planning and management, water and sanitation national strategies, groundwater management plans, rural and urban water management plans, water resource modelling, water supply strategies, hydrology and hydraulic planning and analysis of networks and water technology plans. All these aspects, in turn, help to formulate our client’s vision through the development and sustainable deliverance of water and wastewater solutions.
Recently, in 2014, Hydro-Utilities in partnership with Castalia Advisors completed a water supply assessment study for a technical and financial improvements study for the Zimbabwe National Water Authority’s small-town water supply stations. This study was then followed, in 2016, by a UNICEF and Austrian Aid funded water and sanitation project that aimed to build capacity within 14 local authorities in the area of operation and maintenance of water supply and sewage treatment systems. Hydro-Utilities carried out this assignment as a sub-consultant to hydrophil (an Austrian consultancy firm). Both assignments were completed within the allotted time-frames and within budget.
Currently, Hydro-Utilities in association with Castalia, have been shortlisted for two World Bank assignments in Botswana. The first assignment is the ‘development of the national sanitation management strategy and implementation action plan’ for the Department of Water and Sanitation in Botswana. The second assignment is the ‘implementation of a water security and master plan program’ for the Department of Water Affairs Botswana.
